Highlights:
    Gahanna
  • 12,000 square foot branch library
  • Located in the "Olde Gahanna" district, the building responds to its context by using materials and form appropriate to the community
  • Facility is organized around a day-lit central reading area with views of a wooded area to the north
Hilliard
  • 20,000 square foot regional library
  • Front door, which is located on a curved wall, encourages access and is a passive security measure
  • The roof is literally sliced in two as a low ceiling, "main street" cuts diagonally through the building
  • When lit from the inside at night, the clerestories frame the roof profiles, attracting attention and encouraging the community to stop and enter
  • The facility is very active, circulating over 1.4 million items per year
Northern Lights
  • 12,000 square foot branch library
  • Freestanding branch designed to replace an existing library located in a nondescript strip shopping center storefront
  • Building is sited at a 45-degree angle on a corner lot to afford broader expansive views from the reading lounges
  • Distinguishing features include natural light, art, exciting reading areas, and after-hours community use
South High
  • 12,000 square foot branch library
  • Library enhanced the urban pride of an area seeking to expand community educational and recreational opportunities
  • Exceptional nighttime statements, strong internal function, unique pedestrian sensitivities, and the integration of building materials, both interior and exterior, are key attributes of the library

Whetstone
  • 17,000 square feet
  • Building design is organized around a central clerestory spine that creates ease of circulation while allowing natural light to flood the center of the building
  • Other sustainable design elements were incorporated in the building that greatly reduces energy use so that it now has the lowest energy consumption of any library in the System
  • A 6,000 square foot addition was recently completed that makes the branch the largest branch in the Columbus Metropolitan Library System. The facility is very busy, circulating over 1.2 million items per year
