- Building utilizes "green features" such as indigenous landscape materials, natural stormwater retention, solar orientation, daylighting, local materials, and a walkable location
- To blend with its surroundings, the library is designed in the "cracker style" architecture prevalent in Starke and other areas of the South; it has sloping metal roofs and a high clerestory to introduce daylight into the center of the library
- The design incorporates principles of daylighting and orientation to the sun to conserve energy
